The project’s goal was to design an open market that involves the community and its culture. Located in a Chicago neighborhood, Pilsen's largely Hispanic demographic greatly influenced the design of the public space and was the driving factor behind the colors. I researched the ideals in the cities of ancient Greece, Rome, and Spain because of their democratic open markets and each one is given importance in its community. With this investigation in mind my primary objective became to recognize the civic importance of a marketplace within the city.  This was accomplished through an outdoor loggia. This project was also a structural material study and I designed a 2-way concrete joist system. This repetitive system created a space with a clear direction and procession.
